Is Paris safe after 10pm for visitors and locals walking at night? Yes, big yes, that’s the answer. But it depends, obviously. Paris is, up until these days, a very safe city in general. Even at night, there’s just a few places to be specially aware. If you stay in the central touristy, well-lightened parts, where there’s activity and police visible presence, you’ll be on the safe side.

On the other hand, if you want to go back home after 10 p.m and take dark alleys or something like that, maybe you’ll find some issues. It is not normal to get involved in a violent situation. It’s just minor complications like pickpocketing or getting your value thing stolen.
Also, during daytime, in crowded places, you have to be mindful about your personal belongings. So, in those situations, avoid showing off your valued objects, like your last iPhone or some jewelry or a super expensive watch. Those things, you have to decide where to show off and where not to.

Where are these places? After 10 p.m., some places just start to shine, like Le Marais, Latin Quartier, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, or nearby the Seine. There’s a lot of very late activity, so it can be safe to walk there in these zones. Also Paris have good bars and this palces have a lot of security. So you can be dancing until 3 am with total security.

But on the other side, there are places you shouldn’t stroll around. La Gare du Nord has a bad reputation of being a dangerous place. Or La Gare de l’Est, Parbès, Stalingrad, La Chapelle…They can feel less comfortable. If you can avoid them, especially if you’re alone at night, do avoid them.
Take an Uber from the station. You will have less problems. There are no prohibited zones in Paris, but these last places around the stations have statistics, low ones but still worthwhile considering them. Just avoid the dark alleys or things where you don’t feel safe. But violent crimes are not a thing that’s at all normal in Paris.
Is Paris safe after 10pm when using public transport?
There’s the Metro (open till 2pm on weekends) and the Noctilien, which are the night buses. Their service connects the city from one corner to the other, so think about them. You can get in with a metro ticket, so it’s a very, very good option.
And the last alternative would be to take an Uber or taxi with a license. That’s a thing you have to be sure about, because there’s also statistics about the pirate taxis. Plan your route. Know when you’re going to come back and how, because Paris is a very big city.

Some touristy places also have a statistical thing to take into consideration, like Champs-Élysées or the Eiffel Tower. They are so, so touristy that you can find people trying to charge you for things like astronomical amounts for things you shouldn’t pay or a game of distraction to rob you.
If you are thinking about going to the green zones, the big green zones like Boulogne or the Vincennes, they are not recommendable after sundown.
